Kibera Fashion Week is a community-driven initiative in Nairobi, Kenya.
They aim at redefining fashion through sustainability, inclusivity, and ethical practices. Founded by Designer David Avido (Lookslike Avido), it showcases talents from Kibera, one of Africa’s largest informal settlements, challenging stereotypes and global fashion narratives.
The event promotes local designers, artisans, and models, emphasizing sustainable materials, ethical production, and community empowerment. It began in November 2022, with a notable runway on Kibera’s railway line, and has grown into a year-long program.
The 2023 edition featured 15 designers, 20 models, and over 100 garments at the Olympic Bus Terminus, alongside workshops, exhibitions, and film screenings. The event included a unique runway on top of local Buses, highlighting vibrant, sometimes futuristic designs.
