The Rotary Action Group has been dealing for years with the topics of family planning, maternal mortality, health, and the digitalization and analysis of data.

A nationwide family planning campaign in Nigeria aims to achieve sustainable population development under humane living conditions. By specifically promoting self-determined family planning, an important step is being taken to provide people with prospects for remaining in their home country. This initiative is being planned in line with the interests of the Nigerian population, mandated by the government, and financially supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Initial steps for implementing the project, with a total budget of up to 2 million euros, are already being prepared. The implementation is ensured through the many years of experience of RFPD in Nigeria. In order to make use of the offered co-financing, a corresponding contribution of the project’s own funds must be generated.

Many women in Nigeria give birth traditionally in their own homes and lack professional medical knowledge. For this reason, deaths caused by severe blood loss occur frequently. Diseases such as malaria and other infections are also not uncommon causes of death before or after childbirth. Women are provided with so-called birth kits, which help enable relatively safe home births and can therefore prevent severe blood loss and infections. In addition to the birth kits, mosquito nets are also distributed to help prevent mosquito-borne diseases such as malaria.
